NEWINGTON - Dorothy C. (Eddy) Carey, 81, of Newington, died peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2014, with family by her side.

Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Charlotte (Rowley) Eddy and Vincent L. Eddy, she was a lifelong Newington resident. Dottie was formerly employed by Bates File Manufacturing, Newington, and the State of Connecticut Teachers Retirement Department. In 1995, she retired from the Town of Newington after 19 years of employment and continued to work part-time in the Assessor's Office until 2013. She was a former President and member of the May- Davis-Stotzer Post 117 of the American Legion Auxiliary, 8 and 40, the Newington Women's PM Club, Republican Women's Club and was a Girl Scout Leader and a Boy Scout Den Mother.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she leaves six children, Judith Carey, of Newington, Cathy and Weston See, of Coventry, Suzanne Sablosky, of Willington, Vincent Carey, of Newington, Frank and Susan Carey, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Stella Henderson and her fiancé, John Russo, III, of Newington; her special daughter, Alison Olsen and her husband, Willie of Durham. She sadly leaves her soul mate of 32 years, George Smith, of Meriden, and his children, Judy Jeter, of Wallingford, Ginny Knapp, of Meriden, Bobby and Michelle Smith in Massachusetts, Jimmy Smith in California; and grandchildren, Marcel Therrien, Amber and Tim Doehr, Gina Roy, Mike and Jamie Carey, Dan Carey, Dorothy Henderson, Sylvia Carey, Eddie Carey, Kevin Davis, Shawn Davis, Carolyn Moody, Michael and Elmira Sablosky, Jr., Shannon and Jim Ebersold, Amanda Knapp, Lydia Jeter, Kathryn Smith, Buddy Smith; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Oakley, Abigail, Hannah, Madeline, Faith, Emma, Charlotte, Brianna, Mariah, Desiree, Savannah, Leah, Jimmy, Tyler, and Michael. She also leaves two sisters-in-law, Esther Eddy, of Newington and Helen Parry, of Meredith, N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank V. Eddy; her sister, Stella E. Eddy; and son-in-law, Michael J. Sablosky.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 22, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Congregational, 1075 Main St., Newington, with the Rev. Melanie Enfield officiating. She will be laid to rest in Center Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, CT.
