WALLINGFORD - Elizabeth Elyett, of Wallingford, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Hamden's Arden House.

Betty was born in July of 1916 in Hartford to the late Mary and Anthony Gabriel, of Wethersfield. After graduating from Hartford Public High she worked for a number of years in the Insurance industry; after which she met and married Andrew Elyett, of Wallingford and raised their four children in the Spring Lake section of Wallingford. After her children had grown, she worked as a medical secretary in the Wallingford area. During this time, and until she was 85, she worked as a volunteer for a number of civic organizations as well as the Red Cross, Wallingford YMCA, and The Cheshire Correctional Institution. An avid swimmer and runner, she taught swimming at Girl Scout camps in Connecticut and Vermont, and ran in a number of local 5K races until she was 85. She was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Trinity RC Church. Betty was predeceased by her husband Andy; her brother, Tony (having been a combat casualty of World War II); a sister, Mary Ann Malone, of Reedsport, OR, and a sister Helen Karas of Wethersfield, CT.

She is survived by: a sister Ann Solari of Newington, CT, a son William Elyett and his wife Janice of Hamden; a daughter, Virginia Adamczyk and her husband, Robert, of Wallingford, a daughter, Barbara Pulaski and her husband, Peter, of Wallingford, and a daughter, Elizabeth Marth and her husband, James, of Cheshire. She was also blessed with six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She lived with her children up until she entered The Arden House in January of this year.

The family was assisted by The Wallingford Funeral Home with arrangements. Betty's last wish would have been that everyone just do a good deed for someone in her memory. Remembrances can be sent to ridgeview73-betty @yahoo.com.
