SOUTHINGTON - Michelina (Nero) Castaldo, 77, of Southington, beloved wife of Guido Castaldo passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1937 in Amorosi, province of Benevento, Italy, the daughter of the late Angelo and Vittoria (Ferrucci) Nero. Prior to retirement she had been employed by Lori Lock. Michelina was the happiest when cooking for her family and friends. Every meal was made with love. The joy of her life was spending time with her grandchildren, looking after them and spoiling them.
Besides cooking, you would find her sewing and knitting and of course tending to the garden and flowers. She was blessed with many close friends who shared her joys and provided much comfort. She was a devoted Catholic and a proud member of the Italian Rosary Society.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Maria and husband, Del D. Gomes, of Southington and Vittoria and husband, Brian Dufresne, of Cromwell; cherished grandchildren, Ana Maria Gomes, Marc and David Dufresne; sisters, Filomena (Nero) Riccio, Maria (Nero) Riccio and Rosa (Nero) DiPalma, all of Italy; her aunt, Rosalinda (Nero) Riccio; sister-in-law, Ines and husband, Marco Marcuccio; and several nieces, nephews in United States, Canada and Italy; and many lifelong friends who will miss her deeply. She was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Maria Giovanna Rossetti and her husband, Pasquale Rossetti. Also predeceased by her father and mother-in-law, Enrico and Maria (Della Porta) Castaldo.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery.
