WALLINGFORD - Harvey McCartney, 88, of Wallingford, beloved husband of Mary Ann Gessert McCartney for nearly 60 years, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at MidState Medical Center.

Harvey was born in Buffalo, N.Y., July 24, 1925, and had been a Connecticut resident since 1970, when he moved with his family. Harvey was employed by the New York Central/ Penn Central Railroad until his retirement. A longtime resident of Wallingford, most recently of Ashlar Village, with their many friends. Harvey was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and was a member of the Knights of St. John Commandery 347 in Lancaster, N.Y. He loved woodworking, camping, swimming, golfing and UConn basketball. Harvey was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his son, Michael McCartney and his wife, Judy, of Vernon; his daughter, Michelle and her husband, Bob Connelly, of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; his sons, Mark McCartney, of Boca Raton, Fla., and Carmen McCartney, of Jupiter, Fla.; ten grandchildren Andrew, Kimberly, Brent, Ryan, Shane, Chelsey, Lyndsey, Chrisopher, Shelby and Hannah; and six great-grandchildren Jose, Alexis, Noah, Brenna, Dillon and Reanna.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial, Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 382 Hope Hill Road, Yalesville. There will be no calling hours. Inurnment will be private in the St. John Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to Masonicare at Ashlar Village Attn: Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT. 06492. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext.
