WALLINGFORD - George Richard Sutherland, 59, of Wallingford, passed away suddenly Monday, April 21, 2014. He was the husband of Emily Sutherland.

He was born in Queens, N.Y., March 22, 1955, a son of the late Albert and Antoinette Pangallo Sutherland and was the proprietor of Glass Industries of America in Wallingford.

In addition to his wife Emily, he is survived by his daughter, Olivia; his sisters, Arlene Sutherland, Mary Morgan and her husband, William, and Antoinette Christian, and his brother, Robert Elmer Sutherland, all of Florida.; his cousin, John Turco, of New York; as well as many nieces, nephews; and godchildren. His passion was music, and he especially loved playing drums. He inspired, coached, played, and enjoyed watching his daughter play basketball, especially for Albertus Magnus College. Glass manufacturing was a dying art in the U.S. George's goal was to manufacture quality and artistic glass pieces crafted in America. He will forever be remembered as the life of the party.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Monday, April 28, from 3 until 6:45 p.m. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to The Sutherland Fund, c/o People's United Bank, 79 Washington Ave., North haven, CT 06473.
