MERIDEN - Frank Vumbaca, 78, of South Meriden, beloved husband of Maria Pittari Vumbaca, passed away unexpectedly at his residence, Tuesday, July 8, 2014.

Frank was born in Corona, N.Y., Jan. 1, 1936, a son of the late Luigi Vumbaca and Francesca Marcellino and had been a South Meriden resident for many years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel for 32 years until his retirement. Frank was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Meriden and was a member of the North Italian Home Club. Frank loved working in his garden, saying his daily prayers, and participating in church activities. He will be forever missed by his loving family.
In addition to his wife Maria, he is survived by his children, Diane Butera and husband, James, of Redding, Anthony Vumbaca and wife, Melanie, of Florida, and Frank Vumbaca Jr., and wife, Sara, of South Meriden; two grandchildren, Alexander and Matthew Butera; his sister, Carmela Nigro and husband, Nicola, of Italy; his sister-in-law, Teresa Vumbaca, of South Meriden; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Luigi Vumbaca.
His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Sunday, July 13, from 3 until 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 14, from The Wallingford Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Joseph Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT. 06451.
