CHESHIRE - Marcellino Sabino, 82, of Cheshire, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife and daughter in Meriden at the home of his daughter and son-in law after a brave battle with lung cancer on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014. He was the son of the late Giovanni and Giovannina Marra Sabino.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1932, in Treglia, Comune di Pontelatone, P. Caserta, Italy. He resided in Cheshire and prior to that in Meriden since coming to the U.S. in 1961.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Concetta (Izzo) Sabino, three children, John Sabino and his wife, Mary (Weathers), Lina Zajac and her husband, Stanley, and Anthony Sabino; twelve grandchildren, Neda , Gianna, Angela, Marcello, and Isabella Sabino, Tyler, Andrew, Marcel, and Christopher Zajac, and Giovanni, Marcellino, and Giuseppe Sabino. He was the brother of Vincenza (Emanuelle) Izzo, Angelina Del Nero, Agnese (Michele) Izzo, and Antonio (Lidia) Sabino. He also leaves sisters-in-law, Antonia Palmieri and Antonietta Izzo; and brothers-in-law, Giovanni (Domenica) Izzo and Antonio (Carmela) Izzo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers who died in infancy; sisters-in-law, Teresa Izzo, Ersilia Palmieri; and brothers-in-law, Luigi Del Nero, Rinaldo Izzo, Giacomo Izzo, Tomasso and Gennaro Palmieri. Prior to his retirement Mr. Sabino was employed by the International Silver Company of Meriden, owned and operated Tony's Deli in Meriden, and later worked for the Cheshire Board of Education. Mr. Sabino enjoyed gardening, his weekly poker games, Boston Red Sox baseball, and trips to the casinos with his wife. For the last 15 years, he and his wife, Concetta, have enjoyed spending winters in Orlando, Fla.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Friday, (TODAY), from 4 to 8 p.m.

The Sabino family would like to thank all the staff at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale, and to his aid from CT Hospice, Jessica for the excellent care given to Mr. Sabino.
