MERIDEN - Joseph Jukonski, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, in his hundredth year on this earth.

Born in Middletown on Oct. 23, 1914, he was the son of the late Pauline & Bronislaus Jukonski. He owned and operated the Modern Barber Shop on Pratt Street for over 50 years, and had many friends and regulars. An avid salt water fisherman, he shared his lobster, clams and fish with friends and family. Joseph a self-taught accordion player was with Vic Meyers and Walt Solek Polish bands and played many venues in Connecticut and Massachusetts. He also entertained at family gatherings. He and his wife Adeline owned a cottage at Lake Beseck for many years and later camped at Hammonasett for many summers for his love of the water.

He is survived by three grandchildren, Michael, Christine and Kathleen; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two loving nieces, Gloria Giacco and Rosalie Mesite; and many nephews. He was predeceased by loving wife, Adeline Bovino Jukonski; his beloved son, Michael; and his only brother, Walter, of Middletown. He was also predeceased by his grandson, James Jukonski.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Sept. 5, at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Section 12 for a gravesite service. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Friday prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Meriden Humane Society, 311 Murdock Ave., Meriden CT 06450 for Uncle Joe's love of animals.

Our special thanks to the staff on wing 200 at the Coccomo Health Center for the wonderful care of him for the past three years, the nurses, aides, and the special ladies in the kitchen. To Ana, a loving neighbor, who cared for his dog Louie and faithfully visited him
