MIDDLETOWN - Marie (Filardo) Olszewski, 72, of Morning Glory Drive, Middletown, formerly of Valhalla, N.Y., died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at White Plains Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of 51 years of Thomas J. Olszewski.

She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., April 14, 1938, a daughter of the late Frank and Lucille Filardo. She had been employed as a secretary at California Texas Oil in New York City and later retired as the office manager of Landmark Document Services in Stamford. After her retirement she and her husband moved to Connecticut to be closer to her grandchildren, who were the joys of her life. Marie was a parishioner of St. Pius X.
In addition to her husband Thomas, she is survived by her five children, Marianna Rivers and her husband, John, of Southington, Liz Rivers and her husband, Scott, of Meriden, Suzanne Owen and her husband, Kevin, of Madison, Frank Olszewski and his wife, Tammy, of Akron, Ohio, and Steve Olszewski and his wife, Christine, of Wallingford; her 11 grandchildren, Alianna Olszewski, Amanda and Matt Rivers, Christopher Olszewski, Jack and Lainey Rivers, Sophia, Luke, and Elise Owen, and Peyton Olszewski and Zoe Wigger; her brother, Frank Filardo and his wife, Andrea, of New Fairfield; and her two nephews, Frank Filardo, of Michigan, and Anthony Filardo, of New Fairfield. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas J. Olszewski, Jr.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, on Friday, July 2, from 4 until 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m., directly at St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown. Interment will be private.
