WALLINGFORD - Phyllis Lawson Mashia Amado, 60, of Wallingford, beloved wife of Alfonso E. Amado, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 13, 2012, at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven.
Phyllis was born in New Haven, June 22, 1951, a daughter of the late Leroy Sheldon Lawson and Catherine Cusano Hopkins and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She was employed by the State of Connecticut, Dept. of Transportation, for over 20 years until her retirement and was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford. She will be remembered for helping those less fortunate than her, and anyone in need, and believed in spreading God's love to everyone. Phyllis loved spending time with her two cherished grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Alfonso, she is survived by her three daughters, Michele Roberts and her husband, Edward, Dayle-Renee Mashia Totino and her husband, Joseph, all of Branford, and Yessika M. Amado, of Wallingford; her two grandchildren, Sofia and Edward Roberts; her sister, Maria DeFeo and her companion, James Jensen, of East Haven; her aunt, Antoinette Cusano Rajeski, of East Haven; her mother-in-law, Charlene Mashia, of Milford; several cousins; her nieces and nephews, Charisse (Jeffrey) Sanzo, Jacqueline (Paul) Ferretti, and Ronald Lawson Jr. She was predeceased by her first husband, David Ray Mashia; her brother, Ronald Sheldon Lawson; and several aunts; and uncles; including her beloved uncle, Pasquale A. Cusano.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Tuesday, April 17, from 9 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
