MERIDEN - James H. McCann, Jr., 89, beloved husband of 63 years of Jean ( MacIntosh) McCann, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Apple Rehab at Coccomo in Meriden after a long illness.

Born in Boston, Mass. on Oct. 30, 1923, the son of the late James H and Anna (Small) McCann, he was a graduate of Brockton High School and Northeastern University School of Engineering in Boston. He had resided in Meriden for the past 56 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy and had sailed to China and Japan during his service. He was retired from the Kerite Company, a division of Harvey Hubbell, Inc. in Seymour, where he worked as a chemist. In his retirement, he worked in the men's department at J.C. Penney. Mr. McCann loved his family and enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Onset, Mass., and winter vacations in North Redington Beach, Fla. He was an avid reader and his hobbies were metal detecting along the beaches of Onset, Mass., playing bridge and collecting stamps and coins. He was very active in the First United Methodist Church of Meriden for over 50 years. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, on the Board of Trustees, treasurer of the church, finance chairman, and belonged to the Monday Morning Men's Group. He served as a chairman of the local American Red Cross Board and was a member of the Y's Men of Meriden.

In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his four children, Attorney Stephen D. McCann and his wife, Lorrie, of Naples, Fla., Carol J. McCann, of Meriden, Nancy M. Records and her husband, Harold, of Wickford, R.I., and James H. McCann III and his wife, Lisa, of Hollis, N.H.; six grandchildren, Harold A. Records, Jr., and his wife, Jessica, David L. Records and his wife, Allison, Jeannie Records, Carol Anne Records, James H. McCann IV, Madeleine McCann; and one great-grandson, Sebastian David Records.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Apple Rehab/Coccomo for the wonderful care and kindness their husband and dad received while in their care.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service to be held on Saturday, March 2, at 11 am at the First United Methodist Church, 159 East Main St., Meriden. Burial will be in Agawam Cemetery in Wareham, MA on Monday, March 4, at 2 pm. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the American Red Cross 209 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT 06032.
