MERIDEN - Ronald J. Bess, 81, husband of Christine Richards Bess, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden on Nov. 7, 1931, he was the son of the late Walter and Mildred (Martindale) Bess and had resided in Meriden his whole life. Mr. Bess was employed by Connecticut Light and Power for 37 years, retiring in 1990. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Bess was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed stamp collecting, and enjoyed vacationing in the Adirondacks.

Besides his wife Christine he is survived by a daughter, Cindy (Bess) Belanger and her husband, Martin Belanger, of Meriden; two sons, David and Jeffrey Bess, both of Meriden; a brother, Gordon Bess, of Danville, Vt.;, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Lois (Bess) Shilling, of Durham.

A graveside service with military honors will be held in Gethsemane Cemetery, Bee St., Meriden on Saturday, July 20, at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E.
