WALLINGFORD - John A. Placa, 68, of Wallingford, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Regency House in Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Rebecca Vaughn Placa.

John was born in Hartford, June 26, 1946, the son of the late Antonio and Teresa Del Santo Placa and was a Lyman Hall High School graduate of the class of 1965. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and had been employed by the Wallingford Board of Education for 38 years, currently as the head custodian of Sheehan High School. He was a member of the V.F.W. and enjoyed reading history, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Bradford, Vt.

In addition to his wife, Rebecca, he is survived by his two daughters, Tammy Andrews and her husband, Dana, of New Britain, and Theresa Ayers, of Wallingford; and his grandchildren, Nicholas Andrews, Trenton Ayers and Corrina Ayers.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford on Sunday, July 27, from 2 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 28, at 11 a.m. from the funeral home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Church of the Resurrection where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford.
