Daniel Doerfler Obituary
Born on Sept. 3, 1971, in Meriden to Peter and Gail (Hopkins) Doerfler, he had been a lifelong Southington resident. Danny graduated from Southington High School, class of 1989, where he was a member of the marching band. He was a lifelong member of the First United Church in Meriden. Danny loved swimming and swam on the YMCA and AAU swim teams, still holding some local records. He also loved to fish, although he wasn't very good at it.
In addition to his parents, Danny is survived by his daughter, Shelby Laurel Doerfler; his loving fiancé, Deana Testa; and her daughters, Korryn, Danyelle, Nicole, and Ryley; two brothers, Benjamin Doerfler and wife, Catherine, Scott Doerfler and wife, Kimberly; his paternal grandmother, Shirley (Andres) Doerfler; and four nieces and nephews, Jacob and Elizabeth Doerfler and Thomas and Victoria Doerfler, all of Southington. He is also survived by his uncle, Gains Edward Hopkins and wife, Aileen, of Maryland; his aunt, Lynn McLaughlin and husband, Thomas, of Florida; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Benjamin Doerfler.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Danny's memory may be made to "Shelby's College Fund" c/o Peter and Gail Doerfler, 55 Bagley Road, Southington, CT 06489. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the First United Methodist Church, 159 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. I was incredibly sad to learn about Dan's passing. I just reconnected with him a couple of months ago, after nearly 25 years. He was my best friend for my first couple of years of college, but life sort of sent us in different directions. His parents were kind enough to house me a number of times, way back when. How many hours did I spend with him, laughing and reflecting? Many, many, and usually while listening to country music. Besides his humor and enthusiasm for everything, I think I will remember him best for another reason. He always said what was on his mind and wasn't afraid to pass out a compliment to someone or his excitement about something. No one ever had to wonder if Dan loved them, as he was sure to say it. I miss you, Dan.
