HEATH - Paul F. Burrington, 78, of Main Street, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
Paul was born in Heath on Aug. 6, 1935 the son of Frederick W. and Hannah E. (Landstrom) Burrington. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the former Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls.
On April 10, 1954, Paul married Nancy Chattin.
He was a self-employed building contractor for many years, but he is most remembered for his service to his community.
Paul was at one time a selectman for the Town of Heath, past-president of the Heath Fair and served on the fair committee for many years. He was a member of the Heath Police Department, and years ago, he operated an ambulance service for the town using his own family station wagon as the ambulance.
He was a member of the Future Farmers of America and the Heath Union Church.
Paul was a well liked and well respected pillar of the town of Heath. He didn't look for attention or recognition, he knew that service to his community was of utmost importance. A true gentleman, he possessed deep spirituality and acceptance of all his world had to offer.
A gentle man with the strength of mountains.
Paul was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed his walking time in the woods.
His greatest love and joy was his family.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nancy Burrington; three daughters: Neena Burrington of Heath, Betsy E. Beebe and her husband Sheldon of Westminster, VT, and Sue Croteau and her companion Bob Miller of Shelburne Falls; a son; Fred Burrington of Colrain; four grandchildren: Carrie and Amy Croteau, Justin and Jessica Beebe; three great- grandchildren, and his twin-sister, Erma Lowd of New Haven, Vt.
A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Heath Union Church. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours.
As a tribute to Paul, his family suggests taking a nice long walk in the woods and appreciate the natural beauty of our area.
