Deskavich, Nellie (Grechel) - Greenfield  
GREENFIELD - Nellie Deskavich, 86, of Greenfield, passed away with her husband at her side on Friday, July 24th after suffering a heart attack. Nellie was born in Ashfield, Massachusetts to Eva Grechel. She was raised on Baptist Corner Road and graduated from Sanderson Academy. Nellie moved to Greenfield when she married and worked as a secretary for the Millers Falls Tool Company until her children were born. Nellie and her husband were avid ballroom dancers and enjoyed playing cards with their friends when not spending time with their family. Nellie is survived by her husband of 65 years, John Deskavich, her three daughters and their husbands; Rinky and Doug Black of Erving, Karen and Joe Palaoro of Lakewood, Colorado and Deb Deskavich and Steve Roberto of Northfield, 5 grandchildren; Nathan Black and wife Hilary of Turners Falls, Katie Black and her partner Jim Ryan of Wolcott, VT, Stephanie Devault and husband David of Colorado Springs, CO, Regina Palaoro and husband Matt Bitner of Denver, CO and Joseph Palaoro of Littleton, CO. She had 5 great grandchildren; Lucas, Wesley, Ava, Jacob and Stephan. Nellie was pre-deceased by her brother John Grechel of Colrain and her sisters Anna Okula of Greenfield and Olga Sudnick of Southampton. At the request of the family there will be no services. Family and close friends will gather in the fall at the home of her daughter in Northfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Warm the Children, c/o The Greenfield Recorder, P.O. Dirth, Malcolm E. - Orange  
ORANGE - Malcolm E. Dirth, 81, of Shumway Street, died Tuesday evening, July 21, 2015 at the Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Gardner. Born in Orange on November 5, 1933, he was a son of the late Arthur Sr. and Jessie (Carey) Dirth. He graduated from Orange High School in 1953 On June 30, 1956, Malcolm married Mildred L. (Ward) and they had enjoyed over 57 years together until her death on January 19, 2014. Malcolm served in the United States Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1957. While in the Army, he was a cook and had been stationed in Korea. A hardworking man, Malcolm had worked as an inspector at the L. S. Starrett Company in Athol before retiring. He also had worked 25 years for Athol Memorial Hospital doing maintenance, pumped gas at the former Harris Service Station in Orange, Orange Foundry and had also worked with Dane Parker cleaning windows. He enjoyed fishing and bird hunting as well as raising springer spaniels, and really loved his dogs. Malcolm also was talented at making root beer. Malcolm was a member of the Orange Central Congregational Church. Survivors include his children, Pauline Guitare of Orange, Jessie L'Heureux and her husband, David, of Athol, Terry Lincoln of Orange, Martha Dowse and her fiancé, Daniel Lucier, of Amesbury, and Louise Batutis of Orange; grandchildren, Steve Kolasinski and his partner Derrek Tilley, Nicole Lopez and her husband. Teo, Denise Dirth, Lindsey Guitare, Katelyn Batutis, and her fiancé, Nicholas Clark, Matthew Dowse and his partner, Frankie, and Nicholas Batutis who is serving in the United States Airforce; great grandchildren, T.J. Lopez, Adryan Lopez, and Owen Clark; brothers, Arthur Dirth Jr. and Almon Dirth Sr., and his wife Marge, all of Orange. Besides his parents and wife, Malcom was predeceased by his siblings, Marion Dirth on October 18, 1999, Fred Dirth on June 16, 2011 and Paul Dirth Sr. on February 15, 2015. A calling hour will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 10-11 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 27th at 11 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home in Orange with the Rev. Don Erickson of the Community Church of North Orange and Tully officiating. Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to American Parkinson's Disease of Massachusetts, 72 E. Concord Street, Boston, MA 02118.
