GREENFIELD - Bernard ""Ben"" J. Johnson, 70, of School Street died Saturday 6/7/14 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield.
He was born on August 12, 1943 in St. Ignace, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Narcisse and Yvonnice (Allain) Johnson.
Ben was self employed as a dry wall finisher. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always had a beautiful smile for everyone, a hard worker and taught many people his trade. He spent a lot of time doing for and helping those in need. He was a strong man with a very strong faith throughout his 5 year battle with cancer.
He was an avid Red Sox fan.
Besides his loving wife of 47 years, Nina (Deshaies) Johnson, Ben leaves a son, Petty Officer 3rd Class Eric Johnson of the Coast Guard and his wife Ashley of East Falmouth, MA, two grandchildren, Mikah and Sophia, his brothers and sisters, Laurie Johnson, Donald Johnson (Camilla), Sr. Yvette Johnson, Jeanette Johnson, Edgar Johnson, Jacqueline Thebeau (Alphee), Leo-Paul Johnson, Camille Johnson (Marielle), Yvon Johnson, Yvonne Pellerin (Tony), Roberte Guimond, Jacinthe Johnson and Line Johnson (Donald).
Ben also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
Ben was predeceased by two siblings, Marie Poirier and Claude Johnson.
A Christian Memorial Mass will be held Saturday 6/21 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main St., with the Monsignor Ronald G. Yargeau officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bridgids Cemetery in Easthampton.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the form of Catholic Masses.
