GREENFIELD - Doris (Bourdeau) Bednarz, 98, died Thursday (10-10-13) at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield.
She was born in Montague on March 15, 1915, the daughter of Stanislas and Roseanne (Dubois) Bourdeau. Doris was a graduate of the former St. Anne's Parochial School, Turners Falls High School and North Adams State College.
Doris was a teacher for many years. She and her husband operated the West End Diner in East Aurora, NY. Upon his death, Doris returned to Montague to resume her teaching. She taught in the former South End School, the Montague Center School and Hillcrest. Doris retired in June of 1981 after 29 years of teaching.
She was a member of the Franklin County Retired Teachers' Association, the Retired State, County and Municipal Employers Association, a former member of the Farren Hospital Guild, Franklin County Business and Professional Women's Club, a Montague Town Meeting member and a member of the Greenfield Lionettes.
Doris was a volunteer for the former Farren Memorial Hospital, the Senior Craft and Gift Shop at the Farren Care Center and most recently at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
Among her survivors, Doris leaves her granddaughter, Jennifer Kliska of Arlington, VA; a son in law, John Kliska of CT; a brother, Paul Bourdeau of TX, and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Bednarz on April 11, 1958; her daughter, Joan Kliska on June 7, 2000; her brother, Robert Bourdeau, and two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Julie Kliska.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
