Dorothy E. (Leach) Rice(1922 - 2014)

NORTHFIELD - Dorothy E. Rice, 91, of Northfield Farms, died Saturday evening (2-1-2014) at Charlene Manor in Greenfield.
She was born in Montague, Ma. on May 14, 1922 the daughter of Ralph and Olive (Pierce) Leach.
She attended schools in Northfield and the Greenfield Vocational School.
She was married to Albert Rice in November of 1940. She kept the home fires burning while Mr. Rice served in U.S. Marine Corps during WW II in the Pacific theater. Mr. Rice predeceased her in 1996.
She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cake making, decorating, chair caning, crocheting, crafts and upholstering. Dot was also known as a doughnut expert and was known as a Doctor of Doughnuts. She loved toy poodles, and had a Green thumb, growing almost anything.
She is survived by her children: Judie Manzer and her husband Joseph of Conway, MA. Brian and his wife Linda, and James and his wife Kelleigh, both of Northfield, MA. Four grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by two brothers: William, and R. Kenneth, and two sisters: Marian, and Norma.
Funeral Services will be Friday (2-7-2014) at 2 p.m. at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave. Northfield. The Rev. Bruce Burks, Pastor of the Advent Christian Church, Vernon, Vt. will officiate.
Burial will be in the spring in Farms Cemetery, Northfield at a time to be announced.
There will be a calling hour on Friday (2-7-2014) from 1 p.m.. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
