Dr. Edmund Bradley McCue(1929 - 2013)

Washington, D.C. - Dr. Edmund Bradley McCue, 84, Professor Emeritus at the American University, Washington, D.C., and a resident of the Idaho Terrace Apts., 3040 Idaho Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C., died Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Washington Home and Community Hospices, 3720 Upton Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., following a period of declining health.
He was born in Worcester, MA, on March 8, 1929 to Felix F. and Francis (Bradley) McCue and was educated in West Springfield Public Schools. He furthered his education by attending Union College, where he received his BA in Mathematics. He then attended Michigan University at Ann Arbor, where he received his MA in Statistics. Lastly, he received his Doctorate in Statistics from Carnegie Mellon.
Dr. McCue was a member of the faculty at Iowa University, later joining American University in Washington, DC, as a member of the Mathematics and Statistics Department and retired in 1989. He was at one time a member of the Organization of American States and taught in South America in Chile. Later he embarked on a lengthy sabbatical teaching in Europe, with destinations that included France, Denmark, Germany and Spain.
Dr. McCue was a Renaissance man, who enjoyed many interests including traveling, antiques, fine dining and the pursuit of intellectual conversation. He was a student of the world, which lead him to become involved as a human rights and peace activist. Edmund was fluent in French and could often be found engaging in conversational French at the Alliance Francaise in Washington, DC.

As an only child and one who never married, Dr. McCue is remembered with great affection by his friends, former faculty members, students and neighbors, who include his dear friends, Miss Kathleen Breen of Montclair, NJ, and Ms. Ingrid Fraley, of Germantown, MD, and her mother, Edith Kalnins of Washington, D.C., Dr. Mary Gray, former colleague and Chair of the Mathematics and Statistics Department of the American University, Mindy Kotler, Dwight Smith, Ruth and Beatrice Henriques.
He was predeceased by his long time companion, Inger Henriques.
A memorial gathering in remembrance of Dr. McCue will be observed at the American University, 4400 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC, on Friday, December 6, 2013, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. in the Gray Hall, Bentley Lounge 130, with refreshments to be provided.
At the request of Dr. McCue, he will be laid to rest privately in the family plot in the Highland Cemetery, Millers Falls, MA, on Monday, November 18, 2013. Visiting hours have been omitted.
