ERVING - Gloria Jean Evans of Erving died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at The Fisher Home in Amherst.
Gloria was born on Nov. 25, 1960, the third daughter of Richard Roy and Theresa (Bordeaux) Evans.
She was the mother of Scott ""Scotty"" Phillips of Erving.
Gloria graduated from Mohawk Trail Regional High School in 1978 and from Thompson School of Nursing in 1980. During her nursing career, she was employed at several local healthcare facilities including Farren Memorial Hospital, Charlene Manor and Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
A nursing career was a natural choice for Gloria. She was empathetic, intuitive and caring. Gloria's gentle spirit and reserved demeanor were surpassed only by her quick wit and sense of humor. She was a devoted mother and a remarkable advocate for her son. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, enjoyed helping others and was never known to refuse a game of Scrabble. She was the light of her family and her laughter and smile will be missed by all who knew her.
She joins her parents, sister Rebecca, and brother Charley in Heaven.
In addition to her son Scotty, Gloria leaves two sisters, Terri Evans (David Miller) of Greenfield and Cynthia Demers (Edmund) of Shelburne; two brothers, Keith Evans of Hurst, TX, and Kirk Evans (Carly) of Aurora, CO; her stepmother, Judy Evans of Bedford, TX; sister-in-law, Andrea Klaas of Austin, TX; several nieces and nephews, and many cousins, aunts and uncles including Margaret ""Aunt Margie"" Hill, who provided loving care to Gloria and Scotty during the last few months.
Gloria's family thanks Dr. Joyce Liu and her team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute for the exceptional care provided to Gloria during her illness. In addition, Gloria's family acknowledges the compassionate staff and volunteers at The Fisher Home who assisted during her final days.
In accordance with Gloria's wishes, a private celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family.
Those wishing to honor Gloria are encouraged to make contributions to the Fisher Home for End-of-Life Care, 1165 North Pleasant St., Amherst, MA 01002.
