Grace Elizabeth Blanchard

GREENFIELD - Grace Elizabeth Blanchard, 95, of Greenfield died Saturday (12-29-12) at Buckley Health Care Center. Born on March 28, 1917 in Greenfield, she was the daughter of the late Ralph D. and Martha (Cole) Blanchard.
Grace graduated from Greenfield High School in 1935 and from Keene Teachers College (now Keene State) in 1939. She taught languages in secondary schools in North Woodstock, Sunapee and Lebanon, NH and Melrose, MA. In 1948, she was graduated from Fisher Jr. College and subsequently certified as a medical assistant through AAMA and worked as a medical assistant until 1980, when she took a position at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA, working there until her retirement in 1983.
After retirement, she returned to Greenfield, where she worked at the Church Street Home for Women and volunteered with the Elder Peer Counseling Program. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Arcana Chapter #50, Order of the Eastern Star. Her special interests were travel and music, particularly Boston Symphony, Tanglewood and Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra.
Grace leaves a niece, Heidi and husband Mark Mills of Squaw Valley, CA; nephew Scott and wife Melody Blanchard of Reno, NV; and nephew Jay and wife Mary Blanchard of Roswell GA with their children as grandnephew Steve and wife Charlotte Blanchard and their child, great nephew Tyler of Atlanta, GA; and grandniece Jennifer & husband Joseph Brian Gonzalez and their children as great nephews Tristan & Joseph of Roswell, GA.
Funeral services for Grace will be Friday (1-4-13) at 11:00 am at Walker Funeral Home, 14 High Street. Burial will follow in Green River Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday (1-3-13) from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.
