GREENFIELD - James W. "Pidge" Roberts, 69, of Plantation Circle died Saturday 7/26/14 at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
He was born in Montague on November 18, 1944, the son of Norman P. and Katherine (Cobb) Roberts.
He attended local schools and was a graduate of Greenfield High School.
Pidge proudly served in the United State Air Force and was a Vietnam War
He was a lineman for the Western Mass Electric Company for 25 years. Following that, he worked for Arrow Security and Hunter North Security.
He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard and reading history books. He was very handy and liked working on projects around the house.
He spent hours listening to music and especially enjoyed watching piano, orchestra and vocal performance videos.
Pidge will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor.
He loved his dogs Tyson and Tillie.
Pidge was a past member of the Greenfield Lodge of Elks and served on their Scholarship Committee.
Besides his wife of 31 years, Sally (Richardson) Roberts, Pidge leaves a daughter Jennifer Stopkoski and her husband Ron and their children, Madeline and Marin of Clinton, CT, a daughter, Jenel Lanuza and her children Sam, Owen and Lara of Waterford, CT, a step son, Lincoln Smith and his wife Marie and their children Remei, Evelyn and Sawyer of Bountiful, UT, two sisters, Marie Charron and her husband Joe of Greenfield and Kathryn "Taffy" Chaffee and her husband Neil of Isle La Motte, VT, a brother Winthrop Packard and his wife Laura of Middlebury, VT, a brother in law, Dr. Lawrence Bernert of Norfolk, VA, a sister in law, Veronica "Ronnie" Burns of Greenfield and many nieces and nephews.
Pidge was predeceased by a sister, Jenet "Snooky" Bernert and a brother, Norman "Cricket" Roberts.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, 7/29, from 3:30pm to 5:00pm at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield followed by a memorial service at 5:00pm at the funeral home.
Burial will be at held at the convenience of the family at Green River Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenfield Lodge of Elks Scholarship Fund, c/o Fred Ulrich, 3-5 Church Street, Greenfield MA 01301 or to the YMCA Youth Scholarship Fund, c/o Tina Newton, 451 Main Street, Greenfield MA 01301.
