TURNERS FALLS - Attorney Jonathan ""Jon"" B. Hunt, 75, of Stevens St. formerly of Greenfield and Springfield died Friday (11/2/12) at home.
He was born in Springfield on January 27, 1937 the son of Raymond, Sr. and Mabelle (Brier) Hunt.
Jon graduated from Springfield Tech where he, Bucky O'Brien, Ronnie and Harry Matson, Joe Grochmal, Joe Megholia and Art Malstom won the State School Boys Golf Championship in 1954. Jon graduated from AIC where he was the captain of his golf team and president of his fraternity. He continued his education and graduated from WNEC Law School. He later taught at the law school.
Jon was a member of the Hampshire and Franklin County Bar Associations. He worked countless hours for pro bono services over the years. Jon was a partner with the law firm Arranow, O'Neil, Fratar, Hunt and Kern of Springfield. With great pride, Jon opened a Greenfield law practice with his son Scott Cote in 1996.
Jon had a great love for the game of golf. Over the years, Jon won 20 four ball tournaments always giving his partners the credit for the wins. He won several club championships and father/son championships. He held ""course records"" at four different courses. He held the record with a score of 63 at Elmcrest Country Club for 21 years. In 1966, he was named Western Mass. Amateur Golfer of the Year. The highlight of Jon's golf career was being inducted into the Western Mass. Golf Hall of Fame in 2010. His family and friends were so proud when he was introduced as an accomplished amateur golfer and also being regarded as a great gentleman of the game.
Jon leaves his loving wife of 28 years, Ginger, seven children, Jonathan Hunt and his wife Lily of Springfield, Gary Hunt and his wife Cathy and Kenneth Hunt, all of Wilbraham, Laura Hunt of Springfield, Todd Cote and his wife Dema of San Francisco, CA, Scott Cote and his wife Jamie of Greenfield and Chad Cote of Turners Falls, six grandchildren, Alexa & Gary Hunt and Jake, Noelle, Ryan and Matthew Cote, a brother, Ross Hunt of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Jon was loved and will be greatly missed by Ginger's siblings and their families; Gail and Dan Gabrielli of Raleigh, NC, Bette Ann and Mike Kostanski of Gill and Chip Warren of Grosse Pointe Park, MI
He was predeceased by his brother Raymond, Jr. in August of this year.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St. in Greenfield.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bella Notte Restaurant in Bernardston.
