SUNDERLAND - Louise C. Gunn, 85, of 241 Montague Road, died Saturday evening (1-18-14) in Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Hadley, March 13, 1928, the daughter of Austin and Mabel (Tucker) Cowles. She was educated in Hadley schools and graduated from Hopkins Academy in 1946.
Louise later was married to Charles F. Gunn on Jan. 25, 1947 in Johnson Chapel at Amherst College. They were married 58 years until he predeceased her in June of 2005.
Louise was an active member of the Sunderland Congregational Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, Brownie leader and a member and past Master of the Sunderland Grange. She was also the Town Representative to the Extension Service. She enjoyed her family, gardening, camping and was a member of the Chapel Quilters and a Church Deacon.
She is survived by one son, Stephen Gunn and his wife Ruth of Sunderland; two daughters, Shirley Robertson and her husband Steven of Hadley and Marjorie Gilbert and her husband John of Colrain; six grandchildren, Raymond and Nathan Gilbert, Thomas and Scott Gunn, Shelly Hicks and Sarah Butler and 11 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours at the Wrisley Funeral Home in South Deerfield are Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Church services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Sunderland Congregational Church with the Rev. Barbara Seamon officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the North Sunderland Cemetery.
