COLRAIN - Myrtle Dawn Chaplin, 72, of Colrain, Massachusetts, died Tuesday, December 31st, 2013 at the Franklin Medical Center.
Dawn was born December 19, 1941, in North Adams, Massachusetts, the daughter of Melvin Lillie and Edna Baker.
Dawn graduated from Drury High School in North Adams, Massachusetts, entering the workforce as a bank teller in Pittsfield for several years. She later enrolled at Faith School of Theology in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Dawn met her husband-to-be, Roger James Chaplin, while on campus and was united in marriage to him in 1965. After the birth of their second child they settled down to live in Erving, Massachusetts. Dawn was primarily a homemaker but also held jobs outside the home such as metal lathe operator and private PCA.
Dawn loved to travel and was known to have a great and crafty sense of humor, especially with her family. She worked side by side with Roger for many years with the children in the Assemblies of God in Greenfield. Dawn enjoyed music, especially gospel, and played the accordion, autoharp, and harmonica. Her greatest love and passion, though, was for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her husband Roger James Chaplin of Colrain; four children Donna (Michael) Anderson of Lakeland, Florida, David (Jodi) Chaplin of Colrain, Diane (George) Proulx of Whately, and Deborah (Keith) Ayers of Tulsa, OK; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Lillie, her mother, Edna Lillie, her brother Monte Lillie, and her granddaughter Mariah Sanabria.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 5 at 2:00p.m., at Living Waters Assembly of God, 450 Davis Street, Greenfield.
Interment in Erving Center Cemetery will be private.
