Dr. Norman Bronson Pike, 82, of 326 Main St., Ashfield, died peacefully Friday, November 29, at home surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born in Northampton, MA on February 4, 1931, the son of Norman and Merle (Bronson) Pike.
He attended grammar school and Williston Academy in Easthampton and after moving to Ashfield with his parents he attended and graduated from Sanderson Academy.
He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Pike and the former Christine Micka were married in June of 1952 at the West Hatfield Lutheran Church.
A Korean War
veteran Pike served as a Corpsman 2nd Class in the US Navy
from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. Following the service he enrolled in the Albany (NY) Medical School from which he graduated in 1961.
He was an AMA Board Certified Surgeon for 30 years at Greenfield Surgical Associates where he was partners with Dr. Charles MacGregor and Dr. Douglas Fusonie. Upon retiring in 1996, Chris and Bron moved to Ashfield.
Pike served three years on the Ashfield Finance Committee and was also a member and past president of the Ashfield Historical Society. He oversaw the restoration of the well known Howes Brothers collection.
Pike was an avid trapshooter, a member of the Franklin County League of Sportsmen, a proud member of the NRA and enjoyed woodworking, hunting and photography.
He leaves his loving wife of 61 years Christine; 3 sons Christopher Jan and wife Diane of Denver, NC, Frederick Paul and wife Michelle of Greenfield, Benjamin Norman and wife Linda of Northfield; a daughter Patricia Pike Greene and husband John of Troy, NY; five grandsons Jordan, Kevan, and Travis Pike and Daniel and Nathan Greene. He was predeceased by his son Stuart Lee and his sister Martha.
Pike's godparents are James and Alice Cowan of Greenfield.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Greenfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours.
Following the service a celebration of Dr. Pike's life will be held at the Greenfield Country Club, 244 Country Club Road, Greenfield.
