Raymond Francis Patterson

SHELBURNE - Raymond Francis Patterson, 82, of 486 Little Mohawk Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Kindred Healthcare Center in Springfield.
He was born in Boston, May 17, 1930, the son of Frederick A.Herzman and Margaret E. Schepp. At the age of 2 1/2, he was adopted by Wallace H. and Katherine (Loomis) Patterson. He attended the Easthampton elementary school and graduated from Easthampton High School in 1949. He was a member of the soccer team while in high school.
Raymond had a paper route for a number of years and had the distinct honor of delivering more papers than any other kid in Easthampton.
He entered the Coast Guard on Nov. 21, 1950 and served on the Eastwind and
Matagorda in damage control. He traveled mostly in the North Atlantic and once crossed the equator. He left the Coast Guard on Nov. 20, 1953.
He married the former Evelyn Gadle on June 20, 1953 and resided in Lisbon, CT.
Raymond was employed by Connecticut Light and Power, which later became Northeast Utilities for 35 years. He retired in 1990 to take care of his wife Evelyn, when she became ill. She predeceased him in 1992.
He enjoyed baseball and became a Little League coach for several years and than an umpire for a number of years.
He married the former Fleurette C. Long on Oct. 30, 1993. They traveled all the States including Hawaii and Alaska. Alaska was his dream vacation.
Raymond and Fleurette traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah, to visit the Mormon family history center in 2004 to see if they could locate his blood family. He found his brother Frederick (Judy) Herzman living in Cheshire, CT.
Survivors, besides his wife and his brother, include sons David A. (Laurie) Patterson of Lisbon, CT, Mark J. (Karen) Patterson of Bristol, CT; two stepsons, Trevor L. (Lynn) Wilder and Dan G. (Bonnie) Wilder both of Southwick,; another brother, Charles H. Patterson of Easthampton; one sister, Joan P. Brown of Bradenton, FL; four granddaughters, one grandson, two great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and several nieces and
His brothers, Robert Herzman and Ronald Patterson, predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at 11 am at the First
Congregational Church in Shelburne.
There are no calling hours.
