TURNERS FALLS - Raymond J. Tuttle, 83, of Chester Street, died Thursday (11-7-13) at home.
He was born in Palmer, MA, on Oct. 26, 1930, the son of Donald and Ruth (Andrews) Tuttle. Ray was a graduate of Greenfield High School, Class of 1948.
Ray was a Corporal for the United States Army.
He worked for New England Telephone for 33 years, retiring in 1986 as a splice foreman.
Ray was President and a coach of the Newt Guilbault League, Charter member of the Montague Elks, President of the Board of Directors at Seabreeze Mobile Manor and a member of the New England Telephone Pioneers.
Ray enjoyed the ocean and Boston sports. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, but especially time spent with his close family. He enjoyed time at the family camp on the Connecticut River and watching and feeding his birds. Ray loved spending winters in Hobe Sound, FL, for the last 25 years.
Besides his wife of almost 60 years, the former Karlene Sachse, whom he married in 1953, Ray leaves two sons, Raymond R. and his wife Deborah of Greenfield and Eric and his wife Cathleen of Guilford, VT; a daughter, Cheryl Demers and her husband Rodney of Turners Falls; six grandchildren, Melissa Tuttle Sibley, Jolene Demers, Sarah Tuttle, Ian Tuttle, Charlene McDonough and Chad Demers; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Isabella, Taryn, Benjamin and Saleena, and several nieces and nephews.
Ray was predeceased by his brother, Donald Tuttle.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Monday (11-11-13) at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, Turners Falls, with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.
