SHELBURNE FALLS - Raymond L. Clark, 92, of Bridge Street, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
Born on June 4, 1921 in Montague, MA, he was one of eight children of Albert E. and Ida M. (Lively) Clark. Ray was a graduate of Turners Falls High School, Class of 1939.
Ray was a veteran of WWII
having served with the U.S. Army
Air Corps. from March 1943 to his honorable discharge in November 1945. Sgt. Clark served in the Pacific Theater, India and China.
On May 26, 1951, he was married to Catherine I. Caron and they were married for nearly 62 years until Catherine's death on May 10, 2014
Ray was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Highway Department for 38 years, retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed bowling, walking, reading and crossword puzzles. Years ago, Ray and Kay would take their son, Gene, to Weir's beach at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire every summer for vacations. Something they all looked forward to.
Ray was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Shelburne Falls.
Survivors include his son, Eugene "Gene" Clark and his wife Christine of Greenfield; a grandson, Aaron Clark and his wife Meghan of Somerville, MA; a granddaughter, Nicole Clark and her boyfriend Brandon Ovitt of Winchester, NH, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Ray was predeceased by brothers: Harold, Lester and Leonard Clark; sisters, Nellie Hillman, Clara Bedaw, Amy Clark and Louise Clark.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Monday at St. Joseph's Church at 11 am. Burial will follow in Arms Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday from 9 until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
