CHARLEMONT - Robert Hartwig, 77, of 1463 Route. 2, Charlemont, died Sunday, March 17, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
He was born in Indonesia, June 3, 1935, the son of Herman and Lillian (Braam) Hartwig. He was a high school graduate and had attended college.
In 1986, he and his wife, the former Ellen O'Keefe, moved from Watertown to Charlemont. They purchased and operate the Old Willow Restaurant on the Mohawk Trail in Charlemont.
He enjoyed golf, tennis and bowling. Prior to moving to Charlemont he was a Judo instructor in the Boston area.
Survivors, besides his wife whom he married on April 6, 1960, include his son, Carl R. Hartwig of Framingham; two daughters, Amanda M. (Phil) Nash of Chelmsford and Lillian Pippos of Charlemont; son-in-law, Bill Noke of Waltham; sister-in-law, Laura Pizzi of Shelburne; three grandsons, Bill Noke and Ethan and Evan Nash, and two granddaughters, Cassandra and Breanna Pippos. Other survivors include members of the O'Keefe and Hartwig families in Europe.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Monica Noke, on Dec. 22, 2011.
There will be a celebration of life service on Saturday, April 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Old Willow Restaurant, Route 2, in Charlemont.
There are no calling hours.
