WHITINSVILLE, MA - Stella M. (Woitkiewicz) Golonka, 93, formerly of Greenfield and Turners Falls, died Monday (1-14-13) at the St. Camillus Health Care Center in Whitinsville.
She was born in Greenfield on May 7, 1919, the daughter of Stanley and Marianna (Kurkulonis) Woitkiewicz. Stella attended local schools in Greenfield and was a Greenfield High School graduate, Class of 1937.
She worked in the packaging department at Esleeck Paper Co., retiring in 1984.
Stella was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, Turners Falls, and a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Greenfield, where she volunteered in both parishes. While at Sacred Heart Church, Stella was a member of the Sacred Heart Guild and Rosary societies.
She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of VFW
No. 417 and involved in AARP and Senior Action. Stella was active in delivering Meals on Wheels and Med-Ride. She loved to travel, play Bingo and work on her house. She enjoyed her lilac bushes, and her special cat, Scooter. In her younger days, Stella was an avid candlepin bowler.
Among her survivors, Stella leaves a son, Robert A. Golonka and his wife Margie of St. George, UT; a daughter, Diane J. Morin and her husband Rolland of Mendon, MA; two grandsons, Peter and Paul Morin; five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jason, Samantha, Jennifer and Thomas Morin, and many nieces and nephews including John Woitkiewicz, who looked in on her daily.
Stella was predeceased by her husband, Adolph "Al" A. Golonka, on June 1, 1980. She was also predeceased by her five brothers.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday (2-9-13) at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh St., Turners Falls, with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Greenfield.
