ORANGE - Thalma A. Wright, 78, of Second Street, died on Wednesday afternoon, April 24, 2013, at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare- campus in Worcester.
Born in Northampton on June 7, 1934, she was a daughter of Allyn W.A. and Thalma W. (Williams) Wright and graduated from Orange High School in 1952. Following high school, Thalma attended Northampton Commercial College and then went on to the University of Hartford (CT) where she earned a Bachelor's in Business Administration in 1967 and a Masters in 1990.
Thalma had lived in Hartford for 33 years working at the Pratt & Whitney Co. in East Hartford from 1953 until 1986, retiring as Personnel Manager. She later worked part-time in the deli department at Hannaford's Market in Orange for 11 years, retiring from there in 1999, so she could care for her parents.
An active member of the First Universalist Church in Orange, she participated in the yearly fairs to raise funds by donating and selling toys for the benefit of the church. A certified professional secretary, she was a member of the Hartford Professional Secretaries International. Thalma was a huge supporter of the Orange Police Department's K-9 program through the Pioneer Junior Women's Club and had helped raise funds for the department to purchase and care for several dogs over the years. Thalma was also active in the Orange Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed lunching with her group of friends.
Survivors include a sister, Rosemary Hawkes of Lowell, and nephews, Kenneth Hawkes of Boston, Christopher Hawkes of San Diego, CA, and Gerald Peters of Ayer, as well as many friends.
Thalma was predeceased by both her parents.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held on May 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Wildwood Cemetery, Strong Street, Amherst, with the Rev. Meredith Anderson of the First Universalist Church of Orange officiating.
