William K. Price

SOUTH DEERFIELD -William K. Price, 82, husband of Irene Heinbach Price, of South Deerfield, died Feb. 8, 2013 at home.
William was born in Hagerstown, MD, on Jan. 28, 1931, the son of Henry and Edith Price. He attended Allegany High School. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1954. He received his MA/Ph.D at the University of Wisconsin.
Mr. Price served three years in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1957.
He was a professor of Communication at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, from 1963 until 1996. He continued to teach until 2001. After retiring, he continued taking courses at Greenfield Community College. His interests included reading, classical music, spending time with his family and grandchildren.
William is predeceased by his parents and brother, Thomas John "Jack" Price.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Irene Price; brother, Henry Price of FL; stepsons, Kenneth J. Torok Jr. and wife Judy of CA., Michael S. Torok and wife You Chung of CT., Daniel E. Torok and wife Maureen of TX; grandchildren, Alexander, Kayleigh, Julia, Ryan, Autumn and Jason; nieces, Debi Bauman of ME, Katharine Nelson of Hadley, MA, Layne Poerstel of HI, and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted by Rev. Barbara K. Seamon at the First Congregational Church, 91 S. Main Street, Sunderland, on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m., followed by a reception in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in William's memory to First Congregational Church, Sunderland, or VNA and Hospice of Cooley Dickinson Hospital, 168 Industrial Drive, Suite 1, Northampton, MA. 01060.
The family would like to thank the Center for Extended Care, Amherst, and Hospice for the loving care given to Mr. Price.
