Eileen Scannell Obituary
A native of Harwich, MA, on Cape Cod, she was the daughter of Robert V. and Mary E. Scannell.
Surviving siblings are David R. Scannell, Deborah Scannell Mann and Steven J. Scannell.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Paul W. Scannell.
Eileen was a graduate of Harwich High School, Cape Cod Community College and Mount Holyoke College, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy.
She worked for Deerfield Academy and UMass Amherst as a researcher for Alumnae Relations. A deeply devoted daughter, she spent years as a caregiver for her mother, Mary, in Harwich.
She was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and achieved the distinction of climbing New England's 100 highest peaks, which she did in all seasons.
She was inordinately compassionate. She was loyal and loving to a degree that few realize. She will be dearly missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service in Western MA will be held soon for friends and family, who are unable to attend the Harwich service.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at Morris, O'Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 678 Main St. Harwich Center, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,, concluding with a service at 1. Burial will follow at Island Pond Cemetery in Harwich. Everyone is also invited to attend a gathering at the Harwich Community Center, 100 Oak St. Harwich following the burial.

From the Frances Perkins Program - Eileen was an amazing woman and a true scholar. She added so much to our FP community and was good about touching base with us from time to time. I am so very sad to learn about her passing and send my deepest sympathy to her family and friends.

We will always remember Eileen for her compassion in caring for her Mother and for her zest for life. The angel Eileen gave us after her Mother's passing has been in our home since and will now be a reminder of Eileen.

I was her nutritionist for the past 13 years and absolutely adored her. I was so nervous today when she did not show up for her appointment as this is what I feared. I will miss her deeply. I'm quite shocked and saddened to read of Eileen's passing. We worked together and I always saw her as a very gentle soul. My condolences to her family.
