OCALA, Fla. - Alva Stacy Jr., formerly of Conway, MA, died May 19, 2014 at the Legacy Hospice House. Born on Nov. 9,1930 in Brattleboro, Vt., he was the son of Alva and Mary Stacy.
Alva leaves his wife of 60 years, Janet Batchelder Stacy, and three sons: Charles and companion Laurie Baronas of Whately, MA, Gary and wife Sandy of Florence, MA, and John and wife Diane of Bernardston, MA. He also leaves nine grandchildren: Greg, Brandon, Christopher, Andrea, Scott, Alison, Heather, Alex and Sarah; five great-grandchildren: Jacob, Madalyn, Hannah, Hunter and Marissa. He also leaves one sister, Mary Bassett of Shelburne Falls, MA, and many nieces and nephews.
Alva was a member of the Scottish Rights, 50-year past master of Masons, 60-year member of the Masons and district deputy of Morning Sun Lodge. He was also Past Patron of Evening Star Chapter and a member of Arcadia Chapter OES.
Alva loved rabbit hunting, deep sea fishing and candlepin bowling, where he was the first bowler to roll a 400 series for three strings at the French King Bowling Center in 1961.
Alva worked at the VA for 29 years as a nursing assistant and 10 years for Sun Communities at Saddle Oak in Ocala. He was police chief of Conway from 1957 through 1967.
Alva loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Wrisley Funeral Home, Sugarloaf Street, South Deerfield, MA.
Calling hours will held Wednesday, May 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. with an Evergreen Service to be conducted by the Mountain Lodge of Shelburne Falls.
