GREENFIELD - Charles C. ""Charlie"" Seaman, Sr., 87, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Greenfield, MA, he was born on Oct. 26, 1925 to Charles F. and Selina (Mattson). He graduated from Greenfield High School.
A veteran of WWII, he was assigned to the 121st Infantry Regiment, Anti Tank Co., serving in Central Europe and the Rhineland campaigns. He received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal w/German clasp, Combat Infantryman Badge, the WWII Honorable Service Lapel Button, Sharpshooter's Badge w/machine gun bar and Marksman's Badge w/rifle bar. He was a member of the American Legion Post #81.
He worked for Lunt Silversmiths, retiring in 1990 with 44 years of service. He was the operator of Holland Farms Ski Area for 17 years. He enjoyed downhill skiing, serving several years as a member of the National Ski Patrol at Berkshire East Ski Area. He was an avid golfer and a member of Thomas Memorial Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed woodworking and making wooden toys for various charitable events, which included the annual St. James Episcopal Christmas Fair. He was a volunteer with the United Arc of Franklin County for over 30 years. He was also volunteered for the American Red Cross as a first aid instructor.
He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. He walked with his family for several years, in support of the Meals on Wheels program. He enjoyed walking with his dog Dusty.
He married the former Shirley B. Clark on March 17, 1947, sharing 66 years of marriage.
Survivors include his beloved wife Shirley and their loving children: Chuck (Sandy), Tom (Kathleen), Bob (Irene), Clark (Margaret) and Leesa and her husband John Lesenski. His grandchildren: Kevin, Kurt, Brian, Keith, Eric, Mark, Sean, Ethan, Evan, William, Ryan and Jack, as well as his great-grandchildren: Lucas, Michael, Caleb, Logan, Joey, Lydia and Isabelle. He leaves his brothers-in-law: Earle Clark and Francis Clark, Jr., as well as his sister-in-law, Betty Anderson. He also leaves his extended family: Paul and Arden Billings and John and Betsy Flynn.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents and by his children: Kathleen (1961), Paul (1964), Scott (1996), and Kristen ""Kris"" (2008) and by his brother, Herbert Seaman, and sister, Dorothy Klaiber.
Services in celebration of Charlie's life will be observed on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from St. James Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Church and Federal streets, Greenfield, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Heather J. Blais, rector, will officiate. Military honors will be conducted with members of the 54th Mass. Army National Guard in attendance, assisted by the members of the Hale-Clapp VFW Post No. 3295 of South Deerfield, MA, providing the firing detail. Inurnment following cremation, will be private and at the convenience of the family.
