FLORENCE - Edward J. Lapinski of 315 Bridge Road, beloved husband of Ann M. (McGuane) Lapinski, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. He was born Jan. 29, 1927 in South Deerfield, the son of Francisick and Toflia Lapinski of Hatfield. He was a lifelong resident of the Pioneer Valley, living his childhood years in Hatfield, graduating from Northampton High School in 1947 and residing in Northampton for the remainder of his life.
He served as a private in WW II, earning a battle star for his service in the Pacific theater. After graduating from Norwich University in 1951, Edward joined the Army as a first lieutenant and served in the Korean War.
He worked at Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co. for 33 years and retired as the Director of Purchasing Services. He was president of the Insurance Company and Purchasing Management Assoc., a volunteer for the United Way, a member of the board of directors for the Western Mass. Better Business Bureau, a lifetime member of the Elks, a communicant of Annunciation Church and a lifelong blood donor.
Edward enjoyed golfing, clamming in Duxbury, gardening, reading, Broadway musicals, vacationing with his family in Disney World and Cape Cod and most importantly the company of his extended family.
Besides his wife Ann of 52 years , he is survived by his daughter Mary Lapinski of South Deerfield, her husband David Wolfram and former husband James Evangelista; son John Lapinski of Florence, his partner Kimberly Loughlin, her daughter,Kathryn Loughlin and former wife Jessica Lapinski, daughter Kathleen Coyle of Simsbury, CT and her husband John Coyle, daughter Jennifer DeGray of Granby, CT and her husband Kevin DeGray, son Thomas Lapinski of Florence, and son Michael Lapinski of Newtown, PA, and his wife Samantha Lapinski. He was the proud and loving grandfather to his 11 grandchildren, Katherine and Grace Evangelista, Edward and Nikolai Lapinski, William and Sophie Coyle, Olivia and Jack DeGray, Amanda, Caitlin and Elizabeth Lapinski and uncle to several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by brothers,Walter Lapinski, Albert Lapinski and John Lapinski, and sisters, Helen Robertson, Mildred Ciaschini and Anna Robertson. He is also predeceased by his wife's siblings Alan McGuane, John McGuane and Mary Gutt, and survived by their families.
Friends may call on Friday, July 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Road, Northampton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 20, at 9:30 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at the Annunciation Church, 87 Beacon St., Florence. The burial will be private.
