GREENFIELD - Freda Mary Renfrew, 64, passed into eternal rest on June 20, 2013 at home.
Born August 20, 1948, Freda attended the Roberts School in Shelburne, and completed her education at the St. Coletta's School in Hanover, MA, where she also received the sacrament of Holy Communion from Cardinal Cushing.
As an adult, Freda was continuously employed until her later years at a number of sheltered workshops & enclaves. She took great pride in her work, was reliable and dedicated to every job she was given, and greatly disliked leaving any job unfinished.
She lived at home with her parents until age 50, when she had the momentous opportunity to move to a residence in town with three other friends. Through the devoted care and commitment of the staff there, she was able to stay in her home until the end of her life, surrounded by people who knew and loved her.
Freda had numerous hobbies and interests, including biking, square dancing, basketball, ceramics and rug-hooking, puzzles, movies, eating out and trips to the ocean. She was a long-time participant in Special Olympics, where she loved to compete in swimming, bowling, horseshoes and race-walking events, and particularly enjoyed the State meets and winning medals. She loved to play the piano, sing and listen to music of all kinds and especially loved to sing in church.
Though her life was marked with challenges, she was an example to us all. She never gave up on what she truly wanted, she forgave completely, and embraced moments of joy without reservation.
This remarkable woman leaves her sisters, Debra J. Gilbert & husband Jay Gilbert, Susan M. Renfrew & husband Michael Loughman, all of Bernardston, Nephews Fredrick Glabach & wife Michelle of Greenfield, Robert Glabach & wife Gina, of St. John, VI, Christopher Gilbert & Jordan Loughman of Bernardston, Nieces Katelyn Gilbert and Paige Loughman of Bernardston, Great-nephew John Glabach of Greenfield, Great-nieces Erika Glabach of Greenfield, and Alexandra & Gabrielle Glabach of St. John, VI, Uncle Harvey Renfrew of Hampden, MA and many cousins, all of whom will miss her forever. She also leaves behind an extended family of housemates and their families, and numerous caregivers who gave her love, support and friendship.
She is predeceased by her parents, Fred R. and Helen K. Renfrew (2005), and her sister, Priscilla Renfrew Glabach(1983).
