ATHOL - Kathleen Bowen Jarvis, 91, a resident at the Quabbin Valley Health Care Center, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at the nursing facility with members of her family at her side.
The Guest Book is expired.
A native of Montague, MA, she was born on Dec. 9, 1921 to Albert E. and Theresa F. (Schwarz) and was educated in Montague Public Schools and graduated from Turners Falls High School.
On Feb. 2, 1946, Kathleen was married to Clinton A. Jarvis in St. Mary's Church in Turners Falls, MA, and shared 53 wonderful years together, until his passing in 1999. They resided in Montague and Warwick, MA, and wintered for many years in Zephyrhills, FL.
Kathleen was a homemaker and mother whose many hobbies and interests included gardening, boating and fishing with her Husband "Clint." She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, especially making mittens for needy children and hats for premature infants. She loved animals and enjoyed traveling during retirement, wintering in Florida, and making many new friends along the way.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Kathleen A. Jarvis of Margate FL; Jane E. Markoski and her husband Paul of Greenfield, MA, and Patricia M. Bellemare and her husband Gary of Athol, MA. Additionally, she leaves seven devoted grandchildren and eight beautiful great-grandchildren. She also leaves her wonderful caregivers at Quabbin Valley and her dear friend and roommate of four years, Louise.
Kathleen will be fondly remembered and cherished for her positive attitude as she faced all the many challenges life brought to her. She was a 40-year breast cancer survivor whose strength of spirit supported her through the loss of her husband and her later struggles with Parkinson's disease and failing health. Her unflagging ability to "play whatever cards life dealt her" will continue to be an inspiration to her family and friends.
Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Theresa; her husband, Clinton, and most recently by her sister, Theresa F. Perkins of Athol.
