SHELBURNE - Paul D. McMahon, 59, of the Mohawk Trail, died Tuesday (4-23-13) at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born in Greenfield on March 9, 1954, the son of Raymond L. and Arlene A. (Dufraine) McMahon. He attended local schools in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School, Class of 1972. Paul attended Greenfield Community College and was No. 1 in his class at the New England Tractor Trailer Training School.
Paul was a firefighter for the Town of Greenfield, serving on the call force and the house force for many years. He was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the town of Shelburne and worked for a period of time at the Pheonix Mutual Life in the medical claims department. In his earlier years, Paul cooked as a chef and after that he was an avid chef at home, cooking all the time and always wanting to find new recipes to try. Paul also helped Jan with her dog grooming at their shop, Country Grooming. He helped with maintaining the shop and equipment as well as helping Jan with anything she needed.
Paul was a member of the Greenfield Lodge of Elks where he bartended. He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and was instrumental in finishing his home with his wife Jan.
Besides his wife of 20 years, the former Janice ""Jan"" E. Micuta, Paul leaves his father, Raymond L. McMahon of Greenfield; two daughters, Kimberly Pouliot and her husband Ian and their daughter Scarlett of Turners Falls, Bethany McMahon of Greenfield; a son, Scott Stanley of New Jersey ; four brothers, David A., James R., John T. and his girlfriend Karalee Bassett, all of Greenfield, and Robert J. and his wife Sylvia of Bernardston; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mom, Arlene; a brother, Kevin, and nephew, Zachary.
Funeral services will be held on Monday (4-29-13) at 11a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon from 1 to 3 at the funeral home.
