VERNON, Vt. - William J. Bodin, 86, of Meadow Road died Monday (9-9-13) at home. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on Jan. 17, 1927, the son of Joseph and Florence (Hansen) Bodin. He attended St. Anselem's Catholic School.
William served as an Airborne Paratrooper in the U.S. Army, a proud Veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Upon his return from Military Service, Bill worked as a technician at Sperry Gyroscope in Lake Success, Long Island. He moved to Palo Alto, CA, to work for Howard Hughes at Hughes Air. He retired 24 years ago from his position as a Laboratory Technician from Varian Medical Systems and moved to Gardnerville, NV. Wanting to be closer to family, William moved to Vernon, VT, in 2005.
William's niece, Kathleen (Bodin) and her husband Raymond Butler, moved from Fort Lauderdale, FL, in April 2010 to reside with him due to his advanced age to provide his day-to-day care. In July 2011, Bill was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Since that time, Bill's niece, Patricia Bodin of Erving, MA, and great-niece, Roxanne Butler of Lake Pleasant, MA, has also been an integral part of his care and support.
Also among his survivors, William leaves nieces and nephews, Florence (Bodin) and Raymond Scott of Buckland MA, James Bodin of Astatula, FL, Raymond and Barbara Bodin of Palm Coast, FL, as well as many great- and great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
William is predeceased by his only sibling, John, in 1977.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Bayada Hospice of Brattleboro, VT, specifically Tarina, Beverly, Kristen and Claire for all of their support and care during the past months.
A graveside service will be held Saturday (9-14-13) at 1 p.m. at Arms Cemetery in Shelburne Falls with the Rev. Charles J. DiMascola officiating.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square in Turners Falls.
