SOUTH DEERFIELD - Andrew Ross Scott (Ross), age 61, of South Deerfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.
Ross was born Aug. 6, 1951 in Englewood, NJ, to the late Andrew Ross Scott and Mary Alice Barker Scott. He grew up in East Orange, NJ, and in Millis and Sherborn, MA. He graduated from Dover-Sherborn Regional High School in Dover, MA, in 1969 and from Amherst College, Amherst, MA, in 1973. As an adult Ross remained in the Amherst area and had lived in South Deerfield since 1991.
Ross was a true entrepreneur. Leveraging his work during college typing theses and dissertations, he recognized the opportunity to grow his business into word processing serving the educational institutions in the five college area of western Massachusetts.
In the early 1990s, he formed ARS Strategic Mail Services in Holyoke MA, solving companies' direct marketing needs by offering a full range of direct mail services; combining in-house mail production capabilities with an extensive network of affiliated printers and designers.
Ross was the loving partner of Amy Sanderson. He was devoted to and loved his family; Amy and her sons, Sam and Nate. He was known for his generous, kind and gentle spirit. He was fun-loving yet had a tireless work ethic and was intensely driven and dedicated to his company.
Ross's extensive interests and hobbies centered around animals and nature and he spent many contented hours with his pets or out bird watching and feeding the birds. He was an avid sailor and skier and active physically. He was always one to enjoy a game or puzzle. He was musically gifted and an accomplished pianist.
Ross is survived by Amy Sanderson and her two sons, Sam Adelson of Cambridge, MA, and Nate Adelson of Wellington, FL; one brother, Thomas Dunlop Scott, II, of Seymour, CT; two sisters, Mrs. Marykate Scott Bayer and her husband Peter of Naperville, IL, and Gwenllian Barker Scott of Rochester Hills, MI, and three nieces: Shannon-Lee Vanora Scott, Gina Katherine Scott and Kaitlyn Scott Davis.
He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
A memorial service and internment will be held at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY, for family and friends on Jan. 26 at 2 p.m.
