SOUTH DEERFIELD - Charles Davis Smead, 86, of 108 No. Main Street, South Deerfield died Wednesday afternoon at home after a period of declining health.
He was born in South Deerfield, June 30, 1926, the son of Leslie and Inez (Davis) Smead.
Charles was educated in So. Deerfield schools and graduated from Deerfield Academy. In his early years, he was a manager for A & P and later worked in security at UMass, Amherst.
He was married to Caroline Baronas, she predeceased him in 1957. Charles later married Arlene (Kaminski) Boro in St. Stanislaus Church on June 16, 1962 by Rev. Casimir Switalski. All of their married life was in South Deerfield.
Charles enjoyed driving school bus for Leonard Grybko & Son for many years. He was a member of the South Deerfield Congregational Church. He enjoyed a casual conversation; he loved his home and the surrounding farm land and mountain range.
Besides his wife Arlene ""Lollie"" Smead of South Deerfield, he leaves two sons, Thomas and his wife Kathy of No. Hatfield, Steven Boro and his wife Yan of Amherst, his three daughters, Rachel Stevenson of Browns Mills, New Jersey, Roxanne Smead of Kennebunk, Maine and Valerie Boro of Tampa, Florida, two grandchildren, David Smead and James Stevenson and two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Matthew Smead.. His son Robert Smead and his brother Richard Smead predeceased him.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 19th at 12 noon in the Wrisley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeremiah Rhood officiating.
Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, South Deerfield.
There will be a calling hour Tuesday at 11 a.m., until the time of the service. Donations in Charles' memory may be made to the . or the , Western Mass Region, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA, 01701.
