WHATELY - Chester "Chet" Buckowski, 63, of 31 Swamp Road, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 18, 2013.
Chet was born in Northampton on Feb. 19, 1949, the son of the late Chester Buckowski and Katherine (Gesiorek) Buckowski of Hatfield.
Chet grew up in Hatfield, attending local schools and graduating from Smith Academy.
After serving six years in the National Guard, he started his career as an automotive mechanic. He opened and ran a successful auto service in Northampton for many years. He decided he needed a change and began working as a pipe fitter, while continuing to fix cars on the side. He finally once again, established his own business, Dynamic Mechanic located in Easthampton in 1992.
Chet was a longtime Whately resident. He enjoyed time spent at his home with his family and friends. Chet could be found manicuring his lawn or doing home improvement projects. In his free time, he enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors, country music and he had a great love for the beach and NASCAR.
He leaves his wife, Eileen (Boyle) Buckowski of Whately, his daughters: Jodie Buckowski of Chicopee and Rachel Giunta and her husband Philip of NH; his mother; Katherine (Gesiorek) Buckowski of Hatfield. Chet also leaves his siblings: Marion Diggins of Hatfield, Paul Buckowski of Chicopee, Cynthia Buckowski of Amherst, Margaret "Terry" Buckowski of Easthampton, Thomas and his wife Elaine Buckowski of Easthampton, Patricia Maguffin and her husband Dan of NY and David Buckowski of Hatfield. He also leaves his beloved grandson, Avery, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton, 173 North St.
The family invites you to join them directly at Holy Family Church, Sugarloaf Street, South Deerfield, on Friday at 10 a.m. to celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial for Chet. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery in Florence.
