MILLERS FALLS - Claire M. (Thomas) Gould, 87, formerly of Millers Falls, died peacefully Thursday 6/12/14 at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, MA.
She was born in Montague on October 7, 1926, the daughter of John Harold and Mary Ellen Thomas.
She graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1944.
Claire Gould was a beloved mother and ran Gould's Luncheonette and Package Store with her husband for over twenty-five years. She was a bank teller at the Bank of Boston in Greenfield for ten years. She had a vibrant personality that spread humor and love to her family and many friends. Claire was known for being very sociable and making people feel welcome. She enjoyed spending time outdoors on her front porch and in her gardens, as well as golfing at the Thomas Memorial Country Club with her friends and grandchildren. She also spent many memorable summers with her family at their camp at Lake Wyola. Though her life centered on local events, she vastly enjoyed visiting and traveling to Maryland, California, Florida, the Caribbean, and France.
Claire was predeceased by her husband, Justin Berard Gould on April 23, 1981.
Among her survivors, Claire leaves two sons, John R. Gould and his fiancé Linda Saulnier of Pembroke, MA, Timothy J. Gould and his wife Sydney Baily-Gould of Amesbury, MA, a daughter, Norma I. Torti and her husband Victor of North Hampton, NH, seven grandchildren, Justin J. Gould, Jeffrey D. Gould and his wife Kelly, Nathan M. Torti and his wife Katherine, Joseph J. Torti, Maria E. Torti, Pandora J. Baily-Gould, and Jasper J. Baily-Gould, and two great grandchildren, John Robert Gould and Anna Rose Gould. She also leaves dearly loved nieces and nephews of her deceased sister Dorothy M. Stotz.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 6/17 at 9:15 am from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 am at Our Lady of Peace Church with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit officiating.
Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Millers Falls.
Calling hours will be held Monday evening 6/16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
