ATHOL - Dana G. Blake, 65, of High Street died Saturday (11-24-12) at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in Worcester.
Dana was born on Sept. 24, 1947 in Lebanon, NH, the son of Harold E. and Alice (Welch) Blake. Dana attended Plymouth-Carver Regional High School, Class of 1965.
Dana was a U.S. Army veteran, serving two tours in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He served 30 years in the Army Reserve, retiring in 2007 with the rank of major.
Dana was a precision tool maker at L. S. Starrett Co. in Athol for 28 years.
Dana was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Orange-Athol Elks Club, the American Legion Post No. 0102, the Orange Gun Club and the Athol Bird Club.
Dana enjoyed playing golf daily with his friends at the Petersham Country Club where he was a member. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.
Among his survivors, Dana leaves his mother, Alice Blake of Turners Falls; a son, Timothy R. Blake of FL; two daughters, Katherine B. Leonardi of Forida and Colby W. Frasier of Plymouth; a sister, Lynn O'Riley and her husband John of Turners Falls; a brother, Garth Blake and his partner Debra Pretti of Plympton; several grandchildren, and his beloved cat Herbert.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral services will be private and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
