Diane "De" Hawkins Cox of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, after a long illness with her husband Rick and family by her side at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC.
De was born in Greenfield, MA, on Aug. 25, 1956. She was the daughter of Barbara Allen Hawkins of Greenfield, MA, and the late William Hawkins. De graduated from Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, MA, in 1975. She went on to graduate from Southern Vermont College in 1977 before moving to Florida.
De moved to Hendersonville, NC, in 1983 taking a job with the Jack and Ruth Eckerd Foundation as an outdoor wilderness counselor, where she met her husband.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her youngest brother, Scott Hawkins.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 30 short years, Rick Cox; children, Josh Cox and his fiancé Brittany Bell of Hendersonville and Ben Cox of Asheville, NC; siblings, Doug Hawkins and his wife Heidi of York, ME, and Danny Hawkins and his partner Lori of Centerville, MA, and her wonderful adoring granddaughter, Maddie Cox.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at the Bernardston Center Cemetery in Bernardston, MA, where she will be buried alongside her loving father and brother.
