LEVERETT- Eileen M. (Black) Wetherby, 81, of 51 Hemenway Road, died on
Thursday evening, Oct. 4, 2012 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in
Greenfield, following an illness.
Born on Nov. 24, 1930 in North Leverett, she was a daughter of Nathaniel
and Marge (Lackey) Black and grew up in North Leverett, attending Moores
Corner School and later the New Salem Academy.
Eileen was married to Clarence O. Wetherby in 1950, and was predeceased by
Employed by Erving Paper Mills for many years, she retired in 1991.
A huge Red Sox fan, Eileen rooted for them through the good and the bad. She
enjoyed going to her son Gary's softball games, as well as attending her
grandchildren's sporting events, as well as being an avid reader.
Survivors include her children, Clarence ""Butch"" Wetherby Jr. and his wife
Candy, Gary Wetherby and his wife Paula and Todd Wetherby, all of
Leverett, Tammy Hannigan and her husband Sam of Amherst and Michael
Wetherby of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister,
Doris Roberts of Leverett, and many nephews and nieces.
Besides her parents and husband, Eileen was predeceased by brothers, James
Black and Harold Black.
There are no calling hours.
Funeral services will be held this morning, Oct. 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, with the Rev. Caroline Myers of the South Amherst Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Cemetery in North Leverett.
