SOUTH DEERFIELD - Frederick A. McCarthy formerly of Stoneham, MA, Hinsdale, NH and South Deerfield, MA.
Born in 1944 in Stoneham, MA, son of the late Winthrop A. McCarthy and Marjorie J. (McClellan) McCarthy died at home, surrounded by his loving family on May 1, 2013, the date of his 40th wedding anniversary, at the age of 68. Mr. McCarthy is survived by his wife of forty years, Susan A. (Gilbert), son Brendon ""Mac"" McCarthy and granddaughter Michelena McCarthy of South Deerfield, daughter Alison and husband Paul Hatzis of Woburn, MA, sister Carol Ritchie and husband James of Raynham, MA.
He is also survived by nieces Heather Venturo and Melanie Baisley, nephews John and David Ritchie, along with several grandnieces and nephews. He is the brother of the late W. Warren McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy worked for more than twenty-five years at Hinsdale Raceway where ""Here comes the Colonel"" was announced as his familiar Que.
He will be remembered for his charm, wit and ability to tell a great story. A true Irishman in every way, he loved horse racing and sports of which he was a walking encyclopedia. Tremendous athlete, amazing storyteller, full of wit and cut-up humor. Always willing to be the first to give advice and was very good at it. He could always make you laugh. He loved Saratoga Racetrack and York Beach, ME, but above all, his immediate family, especially his granddaughter Michelena, the light of his life.
